SHEELAGH
When I grow up I want to be dancer.
Sheelagh is a Canadian who grew up in British Columbia – in Vancouver and in the beautiful Okanagan Valley. She spent most of her childhood outdoors. In Vancouver she walked around her neighborhood and visited the widows to share stories, homemade cookies, and milk. In the Okanagan she, her dog, and the children next door, enjoyed hours of adventures on the mountain behind their families’ orchards.
Although her lifelong dream was to be a writer, Sheelagh began her career as a child psychologist – telling stories to children, lecturing about child development, and leading workshops.
In 2001, after hearing her lecture about “Why Kids Like Harry Potter,” Jack Jonathan asked her to work on his book Yes, You Can… Raise Financially Aware Kids. Sheelagh and Jack’s writing collaboration has produced five books, a DVD, a manuscript, and two websites.
One, MelagranaEditions.com, is a marketplace of photographic images and other products from Jack’s archives. The second website, TheRiverLagan.com is a personal blog that will give Sheelagh a place to share ideas that she hopes will inspire, uplift, and delight.
A website is a big commitment, so Sheelagh’s children and grandchildren may be disappointed to learn that her career as a dancer will have to be put on hold – although one of her grandchildren asserts that Googa’s voice is the music her writing dances to.
